The company was founded in 1977 by Robert Caplan, President and CEO, and provides services to over 600 seniors in Texas and Georgia. Colonial Oaks - Robert CaplanRobert A. Caplan – Founder

Robert Caplan is a graduate of the University of Texas with a degree in business, majoring in finance. He founded Diversified Housing Services in 1977 and has since developed and operated 47 properties which include all aspects of the senior living industry—independent living, assisted living, memory care, and skilled nursing.

His philosophy of care encompasses meeting the individual needs of each resident while preserving their dignity. He is also committed to honoring the families who have entrusted their loved ones to Colonial Oaks.




Carl Mittendorff, Chairman & CEO

Carl Mittendorff is an experienced senior living owner/operator/developer, having deployed over $900 million into solely senior living assets, totaling over 12,800 beds across 65 transactions, 20 states, and over $2.3 billion in value. His management experience covers all property types including independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and also Continuing Care Retirement Communities. Likewise, his investment experience covers the spectrum including complex repositioning, turnaround, distressed debt, ground-up development, and stabilized “core” assets.

Senior care has been a passion of Carl’s ever since he watched his grandfather, a decorated WWII Marine Corps Tank Commander, pass away in a Medicaid bed at a nursing home. At the time, Carl was just a young man starting out in business and there was only so much he and his family could do to care for “Papa” with the resources the family had. Carl’s mother, a long time single mom working hard to support her family, acted as Papa’s caregiver in the evenings while she worked her full time job during the days. Eventually Papa’s care needs were too severe and the family had to move him into a state funded facility. Soon thereafter, Carl devoted his career to serving seniors.

Carl knows that his purpose in life is to serve. In his heart, this extends towards his employees, the residents they serve together, to their families, and to their surrounding communities. Carl applies this philosophy of service beyond his professional life and his free time is often completely absorbed by active involvement in youth ministry and frequent community service projects at home and abroad.


Linda Bowser – Vice President of Operations

Linda Bowser began her career in senior care 25 years ago as the Executive Director of an assisted living community in Houston where she saw first-hand how seniors can flourish in the assisted living environment when their individuality is respected and their history is honored. She has devoted her career to developing programs and policies and training staff, and has opened 30 assisted living communities across the country.
Linda joined Ashley Glen Senior Living and Memory Care in 2002 as Vice President of Operations. She has led the Ashley Glen community in its commitment to enhance the lives of seniors, to bring peace of mind to families, and to continually develop staff in the art of serving seniors.
